This was this last year when our kikos were roughin it in northern wyoming. Now they live in the warmth of TX.

Howdy from Cowpony Ranch Kikos. We thought we would give you a taste of  how our goats live. When we lived in colorado we only had 5 acres and the goats had to live in pens. They were grained alittle and given hay. We have now lived in Wyoming since april. The goats range on  about 30-40 acres of wyoming grass, russian olive trees,  prickly pear cactus and sage.  The goats have not had any grain untill this current week where the temp is well below zero and the browse is gone from their field.  These are tough wyoming goats and know how to forage for food.

This is Golden Boy after being out with the girls since the middle of august. All the does are pregnant so Golden Boy is one hard working boy.

Rooster Cogburn and Ned Batey are twins bucklings from Katie and Golden Boy. They were born just 2 weeks ago today. They are huge, correct boys, and i imagine one of them will be the new herd sire for us and i'm sure the other will be a herd sire for someone else. We will see what their 30 day weights are. Both are buff colored with white markings and i am sure they carry the color gene like their dad.

How do you keep  60 goats  warm in -24 degree weather when livestock warnings are called for. We have been waiting to move to our new farm when our current farm sells and  this farm has no barn and not much for outbuildings. You are talking about tough goats.

The rookie and the veteran

What a tough life this pair of guardians have. These are truly kiko tough. This is saber taking a break from the weather ( she is getting older and having some age issues). the little fluff ball is the newest recruit who doesn't even have a good name yet. She will hopefully be sabers replacement. The life of reily.

WYOMING TOUGH KIKOS WEATHER REPORT

Above Paul takes a break from the cold. Our newest guardian Butter Knife, guards him, Remington (her german wirehair side kick) helps keep watch.   I don't think guardians are supposed to be couch potatoes.

jan 28 2008

the temperature was 46 and sunny. this was in the middle of the afternoon. within a half hour it had dropped to 8 degrees above zero and visibility was 50-100ft.  the wind was wicked. paul has a kerosene heater in the little goat house trying to keep the goats warm. the full bloods are up at the farm house in the sheds with the babies. we will hopefully never have babies this time of year again.

FEB 4, 2008. the weather is in the 20's. what a relief. FEB 11th, the weather is still mostly zero to 20's. we hit the 30's for a few hours the other day. FEB 18, I think we hit upper 40's for a couple of hours the other day, maybe today too.

feb 28, the weather has finally started to ease alittle. we actually had some temperatures in the high 40's, maybe low 50's the other day. maybe spring is coming.

YIPPEEE!! iTS A  SNOW DAY.

Paul trying to make sure the goats make it thru the storms.

Someones been working hard with dad outside in the cold. ( the still unnamed fluff head, some day to be guardian).
